Setup Eclipse IDE on Ubuntu Linux v13.10

  1. Follow the instruction to install Oracle JDK onto the system:
    http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Oracle-Java-JDK-on-Ubuntu-Linux
  2. Download eclipse and extract to a folder.
  3. Create a shell script file as following:

    #!/bin/bash
    UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= [eclipse_executable_file_path] -data [workspace_folder_location]

    Replace [eclipse_executable_file_path] with the eclipse executable location that previous step extract to, and the [workspace_folder_location] is the folder where you want to save the eclipse workspace to.

And it can be run via that script file.
